Washington, D.C. – Now that John McCain and Barack Obama are the presumptive presidential nominees of their respective parties, general election policy debates have begun in earnest. With 140,000 U.S. troops still in Iraq and Al Qaeda reconstituting itself on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, national security issues promise to be hotly contested between now and November.

That is why the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation has prepared a side-by-side comparison of the candidates' positions on nuclear weapons, nonproliferation, missile defense, and relations with countries like North Korea, Iran, and Russia.

The resource is available online.

Included are the candidates' positions on Reliable Replacement Warhead, Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START), Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT), Nunn-Lugar Cooperative Threat Reduction, and relations with India, Iran, North Korea, and Russia.

As the campaign progresses and the candidates expound upon their positions, experts at the Center will be available to comment publicly on the latest developments. Center experts on nuclear weapons issues include:
